Position Description
NCB Capital Impact, based in the Washington, DC metro area, works with its nonprofit, mission-oriented for-profit, government and financing partners to increase the development of shared equity affordable housing including: cooperative housing, community land trusts and deed restricted housing. NCB Capital Impact seeks a masters-level student intern to assist in our work researching and advocating policies that promote shared equity affordable housing.
Job Responsibilities
1. Program Development - 50%
a. Support technical assistance projects such as article production, real estate development in DC, fundraising and training workshops by applying research, writing, coordination, communication and finance skills;
b. Develop and apply understanding of affordable housing issues, financing and community real estate development.
c. Participate in and contribute to monthly meetings and other corporate activities;
d. As needed, respond to web site and telephone inquiries.
e. May require some filling and administrative tasks.
2. Fundraising & Marketing - 20%
a. Conduct research to assist team in assessing and developing new activities, partners and strategies;
b. Edit and develop new business or funding proposals targeted for policymakers, developers, funders and other stakeholders;
c. Develop marketing materials for external use and identify effective communication channels that will help team to achieve its objectives.
3. Research - 30%
a. Review, edit and develop policy proposals targeting funders, policymakers and other stakeholders;
b. Understand and apply information related to affordable housing policies, particularly as they relate to shared equity.
c. Contribute to the establishment of NCB Capital Impact’s reputation as a resource on affordable cooperative housing by increasing the knowledge base on the benefits of shared equity housing.
The intern will be supervised by the Program Manager and will work closely with a variety of nonprofit agencies and policy and financing entities.
Qualification: Student should have a BA or BS degree, a strong grade point average and be working towards a master’s degree preferably in business, public administration or public policy. Great attitude, energetic, willingness to pitch-in to do what’s needed, strong interpersonal skills, interest in learning, basic researching and excellent writing skills are required.
Salary: Paid internship. Up to $17 /hour depending on education and experience. A monthly transportation subsidy will be provided. Relocation assistance is provided if necessary. Full-time during summer, Arlington, VA location or New York City location.
